The best TEFL course in Thailand – On-site in Chiang Mai.

Have you dreamed of beautiful Chiang Mai in northern Thailand this winter? Lock downs and cold weather it can’t get any worse. Me too, albeit that I am living in the South of Thailand but dreaming of a holiday in the North as well. Any time of the year, wherever you are, it’s a good idea to head over here. To Chiang Mai where the nights are cool, but the days are sunny and bright. Riding a bike through the beautiful mountains, away from it all, sounds good to me.

  1. Teaching is a great way to see the world and work in other cultures so I enjoyed your article on this. How much can you expect to earn out there once qualified for this course?  Thailand is a beatiful place and this would be a great choice as a career break for some.

    1. Thanks Dan for your comment and question. The salary varies between 30-40,000 THB. It really depends on the school and the workload. They pay you a higher wage when you teach in an English program. The average salary is around 34K which is more than enough to live a comfortable life in the north of Thailand or in the south where I live. You need at least 40K in Bangkok though where the cost of living is higher. You usually have tutor at a language center after school or online these days, and with that extra cash you can pay for most of your day to day expenses, so you can safe quite a bit every month. It all depends on your life style of course. If you focus on your teaching career and not spend it all on the weekends then you’d probably consider your initial thought and turn your career break into a permanent job which in my opinion is a dream life! Live TESOL!

  2. Hi, this looks like a fabulous opportunity. I have one question though. Is it possible to extend your stay in Thailand beyond the four to five-month teaching assignment organized for you by the course providers? Is there a limit to how long you can stay in Thailand after you have finished the course even if you continue teaching at a recognized school or college? Does it depend on your nationality how long you will be allowed to stay in Thailand? Thank you, Andy

    1. Hi Andy. Yes, you can stay longer if you have the right documents, even for years like myself. Please inform with the company in Chiang Mai about your possibilities, but in general, if you have a bachelor degree in any field then you can apply at any EFL position. You mentioned recognized schools, all schools that you could be placed in are public or private schools, so it all depends on your skills and preferences. It doesn’t matter where you’re from, all that matters is your teaching skills, so go for it since the air borders in Thailand are opening up finally! If you have any further questions check out this blog about how to teach in Thailand or leave another message. Thank you and good luck!

  3. Thanks for sharing this as we will be doing some travel soon and this is a viable option. My partner spent about a year in Thailand and she stayed in Bangkok as well as a small town in the north. I like that the training is on-site so that there is personal instruction. Also observing teaching practices in local schools is invaluable. My partner may also be interested in this as well. Much appreciated.

    1. Great to hear that Joseph. Thank you for dropping a comment. Appreciate it. Yes, the class observations are important, so that you get useful feedback how to improve your teachings. It is a really good training they’re providing and the way of life up north is relaxed too. This year lots of people are interested to relocate and I can’t blame them. Thailand will be one of the countries high on everyone’s list if they want to teach! It’s not just a job, it’s a life. Live it and you won’t have any boring days anymore. Live TESOL!

  4. Hi Clemont! I’m sorry but does TEFL stands for…? I love Thailand and I would happy start learning ANYTHING if I could do it in Thailand. You state as “3 training parts of the 2-week course in April 2021”. I think you mean 2022? How about Covid19? Any restrictions? Can I enter Thailand freely or do I need some specific documentation and / or quarantine?

    1. Hi Markus. Thanks for your questions. Yes, it’s 2022 now, and I have updated my post. The first 4-week course will be in a few days actually: on the 10th. The next: 07 February – 04 March, 2022. Visit their website and you can read about the dates for this year here.

Regarding your other questions about any restrictions, you can also read on the website that they are running their programs as normal on-site and via a live internet stream from their training room using Zoom. They support visas and will help you with any issues you may encounter arriving in Thailand. When you are fully vaccinated the first night in Thailand must be at an approved ASQ hotel ( the link is below to the booking website). Please note that this option was temporarily suspended on December 21st, 2021; there will be a review on January 4th, 2022. You need to be in quarantine when unvaccinated for 7-10 days, but at the moment of writing this reply, I’m not sure if the air borders are open, so please check the government website on this.

Hope this will answer your questions for now. If you or anyone else interested in following any of their courses on-site in Thailand, please use my affiliate link above so that I will get some cash, but it’ll be of no extra cost to you. Enjoy Chiang-Mai Thailand!
